A young child has died after being crushed by an ice sculpture at a Christmas market in Luxembourg.
The two-year-old girl was struck by a block of ice while visiting the Place Guillaume II at about 8pm yesterday.
Eyewitnesses say the sculpture collapsed near an ice rink and shattered into pieces, fatally injuring the child.
The toddler died at the scene despite paramedics’ desperate efforts to resuscitate her, police confirmed this morning.
Witnesses say the girl’s distraught family were “left in tears” and are now being looked after by a local psychological support group.
