A man impersonated a Lufthansa pilot to gain easy access through airport security, police say.

Rajan Mahbubani, 48, is alleged to have also used the disguise to get preferential treatment with airlines at various airports.

But a Lufthansa employee became suspicious and told security at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport of their concerns.

He was arrested there after boarding an AirAsia flight to Kolkata, India.

Sanjay Bhatia, the airport’s deputy commissioner of police, told reporters AirAsia called Lufthansa to try to confirm Mahbubani’s identity but the German airline was unable to do so this week.
